TRENTON’S NEXT LANDMARK CREATED BY THE STUDENTS WHO KNOW THEIR CITY BEST
The purpose of the Vision Trenton Challenge is to stimulate new ideas for an iconic attraction that people from all around the world would want to see, experience, and engage in. Trenton is undergoing an exciting transformation into the future, built on the ideas of today’s youth and community members. By connecting Trenton’s historic past to its promising future, we are celebrating the growth and history of Trenton throughout the American and Industrial Revolutions while creating something special for Trenton’s CREATIVITY REVOLUTION.
HOW IT WORKS
Step 1: Team and Theme
To enter this competition, form a team of three students. We encourage you to find a teacher to be your mentor, but it’s not mandatory. Next, you will need to choose a theme: American Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Creativity Revolution, or a combo of all three!
Step 2: Research and Poster Presentation
Once your team decides on your theme, the research begins! Figure out your Big Idea and be ready to present that idea on the supplied poster in December. Choose one of four locations: Train station, Roebling Complex, RiverFront Zone or Assunpink Creek/Mill Hill Park. You can also choose a fifth area with a rationale to justify that location. Be ready to answer some questions about your idea! (i.e. What is it? Where will it go and why? What will it look like?) Every group will be required to present their idea, and each group will receive feedback from experts to help grow and develop their idea!
Step 3: Ideas Come to Life
Using the expert feedback you received, you now can take your idea to the next level by bringing your idea to life! Brainstorm with your team to figure out the best way you can visually present your idea. Any visual presentation will do: a movie, 3-D model, poster, or even a live performance to act out your idea. So get creative! At this stage, your team should know every detail regarding your idea. So be prepared to convince the judges that your idea is unique and will attract visitors.
WHAT CAN YOU WIN?
Finally, this is what it all comes down to! Your hard work, commitment and dedication to bettering the beautiful city of Trenton is immensely appreciated. Those who participate in all phases of the competition have a chance to receive a variety of prizes ranging from Six Flags tickets to gift cards. You deserve it!
Our panel of qualified judges, including your Principal, Mayor, Tourism Executives and community members will then thoroughly review all of the participants’ ideas and select the top ten groups to present their work.
Following the presentation of the chosen teams’ ideas, a grand prize of $2,500 will be awarded to the first place team! Second place will receive $1,500, and $500 will go to the third place team. But, that’s not it — all participants will have opportunities to interview for summer internships!
